RCASC Ontario Association Presidents Message

I would like to send warm greetings to all our members within the RCASC Ontario Region. Summer has once again past; I hope you and your families had taken full advantage of the wonderful summer season we had this year. As usual our summer ended with our annual re-union weekend, this year it was held in Carleton Place Ontario on 09, 10, 11 September at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 192. Although a bit smaller this year due to the 110th BC re-union and cruise, it was a great success thanks to the re-union committee Larry Maloney and Bill Carvill who worked very hard to make it so great. The usual highlights were the Friday evening meet n Greet, a Saturday morning breakfast, our Saturday afternoon general meeting and the Saturday evening formal dinner and dance. Our Sunday morning Church Parade ended the weekend with a beautiful sunny day. After the parade everyone said his or her farewells to one another, in some cases not until next years re-union.

Our general meeting was well attended. During elections our regional executive remained the same except for the position of treasurer, Larry Maloney has decided to step down. Bill Carvill was nominated and he accepted the position. Congratulations Bill, we look forward to working with you. On behalf of our association I would like to say thank you to Larry for his many years of hard work and support for our association. The meeting was very active containing several very good discussions and ideas for our future. However nothing was set in concrete as they say. One very good motion that was unanimously carried was the honouring of CWO Wayde Greeley on making him an honorary member of the RCASC Ontario Region Association for his continuous hard work and support given to us over the years. He has been there for us every time we need any form of help or advice, he would have been RCASC except he was born too late. Congratulations Wayde.

This years guest speaker during our Formal dinner was Col Chuck Mathe from NDHQ G4 Transport who gave an excellent presentation. We were treated to a great and knowledgeable speaker including a power point presentation reviewing Logistics Personnel and equipment from the past, the present and what is expected for the upcoming future of Logistics. His presentation brought back many a fond memory and left us in awe for what the present day soldier has in comparison with our time. The future for Logistics appears to have been well thought out and planned for.

Those attending this years re-union were treated to a fantastic display of RCASC memorabilia displayed by a Mr. Dwayne Hordij, his personal collection. Dwaynes Grandfather was RCASC and in his honour he started his collection and what a collection it is. It was great seeing all the old RCASC uniforms (several different mounted on manikins), buttons, badges, and insignias, shoulder flashes, patches and a variety of old equipment. The collection created several conversations and discussions, even Dwayne learned a bit of history about his collection; being viewed by a room full of ex-members certainly helped. As usual it was great socializing and reminiscing with everyone throughout the weekend, especially with the six WW 11 veterans we had in attendance this year. The weekend concluded with a well-attended church parade at the Legion Cenotaph. I'm sure all those who attended had a very memorable weekend.

On behalf of your executive we would like to encourage our entire membership to spread the word about our association, be pro-active, encourage fellow Corp members to join the association and attend the re-unions. Next years reunion will be held in Orleans Ontario, a beautiful suburb of Ottawa. It's never too early to start planning your trip, we hope to see you all there, spread the word. In closing I would like to say in advance, your executive is here for you. If you have questions or require information, please feel free to contact any one of us. Our association is only as strong as the membership makes it.
